Birth Doula

Are you considering a doula, but not sure if it is the right decision for you? Is it worth the investment? Is it really necessary? Isn’t my significant other enough?

Studies have proven that using a doula can:

  • Significantly cut down the amount of time you spend in labor.
  • Decease your anxiety
  • Decrease inductions
  • Reduce the rate of medical interventions
  • Lower cesarean rate
  • Easier boding with your baby
  • Better success initiating and sustaining breastfeeding!

All those wonderful benefits from just one woman?

My doula fee is $500.00

I provide a free initial consultation, to meet you and discuss your wishes/concerns for your birth, and to see if we would be a good fit together.  If we decide to move forward, I will provide you with a Welcome Packet including a contract and confidentiality agreement.

A non-refundable deposit of  $200.00 will be due at that time.

(the remaining payment can be made in installments, but must be paid in full by 36 weeks)

As your doula, I will be available to you with any and every question you have, until the moment you go into labor.  We will meet during your third trimester to create an optimal birth plan, discuss and process through fears and concerns and supply you with the information and encouragement you need to believe in yourself and your body’s ability to give birth. We will prepare and plan for the birth you have been hoping for!

I offer judgement-free care.  Whether you are planning a home birth or a planned c-section, you will receive the same optimal care and support.

I will not take the place of your significant other, but instead, support you both with gentle guidance, options and care.

I will share my arsenal of resources with you to use at your disposal.  Anything from books, supplements to the best care providers in the Wichita area!

Why I am a Doula

Hello! My name is Kyle Parish and I am 29 years old. I was born and raised in West Wichita, where I currently reside.  I’ve enjoyed 8 years of wedded bliss with my hubby, Drew, and together we have 4 boys aged 4 months- 6 years. Day to day you can find me  homeschooling my boys, cooking, tending to our backyard chickens and usually sipping on a cup of coffee.

For me, pregnancy and childbirth was a life changing experience.  When I became pregnant with my oldest, I had not the faintest idea of what to expect or how to prepare for what my body was doing.  I ate a poor diet, didn’t exercise, didn’t properly supplement and really had a miserable time.  I ended up with pre-ecclampsia and was induced 3 days past my due date.  I was not fortunate to have a kind nursing staff during the bulk of my 12 hour labor, and my assigned OB was not supportive of any of the choices I made. I felt bullied, alone and tired. My baby had a 6 day stay in the NICU and I was brokenhearted that my birth had not gone at all the way I had imagined.

After his birth, I got myself together and began exercising regularly, completed my first triathlon, and began eating a healthy whole food diet with lots of protein, vegetables, and good fats.

During my second pregnancy, I felt amazing and realized how much easier it could be when I took care of myself properly. I delivered him safely at home after a 26 hour labor and felt so strong and capable with my birth team routing me on.  I chose to have home births for my subsequent births and have loved the experience of using a midwife and being in my own home.

Over time, I realized how much I loved sharing what I had learned about pregnancy and birth with other women.  I loved watching them research, ask questions and start to see themselves  as capable women able to give birth.  I realized that a light had come on inside of me and so I began my DONA Doula Certification the Summer of 2011.

I began assisting women during their pregnancies and births and really considered it a true blessing just to be a part of their journey with them.   I have had the privilege of assisting over 30 moms in their pregnancies and births over these past 4 years.

In the Fall of 2014 I was asked to join the Young Beginnings birth team as a Birth Assistant to Ginger Young – CPM.  Working as a Birth Assistant has increased my knowledge of birth greatly and given me hands-on experience that I am able to bring to births to benefit my doula clients.

I have received training and certification from: Spinning Babies, Teaching Babies to Breath, Birth Assistant Certification, and Breastfeeding Counseling.

Pregnancy and birth are both completely unique to each woman; often varying drastically in each personal experience.  You have not been designed to give birth on a certain date, a certain way in a certain position.  Culture does not have to determine your birth outcome. You are special and unique from every other mother and deserve to be treated that way.

As a doula, it is my passion to see women blossom during their pregnancies and to embrace who they uniquely are.  It is my hope that every woman will not only envision her dream birth, but be able to walk that birth out surrounded by a loving and supporting team to encourage her on her journey. I also hope that when each woman looks back on her birth experience, she is filled with joy at fulfillment and her wonderful accomplishment of bringing life into this world.
